BEING HUMAN

The title is apparent.
It is taped shut, leaving its content contained and free.

Can we read it?

I wonder what kind of taste it has.
What kind of liquid this is and what type of effect it causes…

Can we drink it?

Yes, we can(ned)!

DRAWERS EXHIBITION - Eye / World @ Triple Candie, New York
Sunday, November 22nd, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m through January 17, 2010
Curated by: Emily Cheng and Michelle Loh

I received Michelle’s email with the invitation to participate in the show. I scrolled it down, kept its intention in mind. We were asked to visualize a system/structure or model of our complex world. Michelle took part in 2005 in my advisory board for my global art project TRANSITIO in NYC. She is aware of series of mine like WASHER (1996- ) and CYBERCLONE 2000 (1997), all global projects that relate to the way we perceive the world. Map-related pieces like NAKED WORLD (2004) or A 100% WORLD – [THE WORLD IS A FAILURE – how can a WORLD be blamed] (2005) came to mind.

A month later I stopped to accurately read the call: While reading I scanned my desk and some seconds later Eureka! I saw – BEING HUMAN. A book and its title BEING HUMAN set the piece off. The renderings are a work out of the object.
